Kate Moss by Peter Lindbergh

Peter Lindbergh is old school. There aren’t many like him anymore who really know how to take pictures….he’s not into little girls.” – Kate Moss.

Drink: The Stoli Sun Kiss

February 2, 2010 · Leave a Comment

You can’t imagine the Herculean strength it took me to not make some sexual entendre about the “Sun Kiss” when it’s being presented by a beautiful blonde bartender with an Australian accent. So many lurid jokes, all of them playing in my head with Sean Connery’s Scottish lisp. In the name of trivia, I’ll tell you that Stolichnaya was the first vodka maker to create flavored vodkas. I’m not certain if they should be proud or ashamed of that distinction.

In any case, I’ve had one and I recommend you do the same.

I’m referring to the cocktail.  I’ve never met any Australian bartenders.

Listen: Erick Arc Elliott

January 7, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Erick Elliot might be a genius. Last time I checked he was a graphic designer, rapper, music producer and composer — breaking new ground on all fronts. Luckily for us he’s prolific and he’s blessed the internet with a new mixtape titled NOIR

If you’re a fan of thoughtful, progressive hip-hop that meets and greets rock, groove and electronica…then do yourself a favor and download it. Standout tracks for me were the classic Dilla-esque vibes of “Hunger“, the vintage 70’s groove of “All Over The Place” and the technological trance-fly of “Orbital“.

If any of my readers are familiar with the Broccoli estate, please suggest that Sade perform the next Bond theme. I’d appreciate it.

Listen: The Best of The Neptunes

December 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Billboard magazine named The Neptunes the “Producers of the Decade”.  Anytime people start giving people superlative statements it gets on my nerves, so I’m not engaging that directly — but it’s a valid argument.

What matters, my ninjas, is that the announcement has given birth to a double-disc mixtape of some of the lesser known, but still fantastic tracks The Neptunes dropped over the past ten years. Go on and get it and set your Christmas parties off right. (Courtesy of Get Right Music).

Movement: The Impossible Cool

December 22, 2009 · 2 Comments

The following images are from The Impossible Cool…

And what is The Impossible Cool, you ask?

It’s a tumblr with iconic photographs of iconic people. It doesn’t add up to very much, but it’s a very good way to waste a little time on the internet.

Bless yourself: HERE

(note: A reader (quoted below) suggested that my statement “it doesn’t add up to very much” was offensive, while I still believe it’s a pleasant diversion, rather than a meaningful exploration of the personalities on display, I certainly don’t want to bemoan another’s effort. And as I have posted it here, it is still recommended.)
